Veneers

The Hollywood smiles on the pages of magazines are most likely achieved using veneers –and where once this was a treatment unavailable outside Harley Street, nowadays veneers are much more accessible. Created in a lab from shell-like layers of porcelain, veneers are bonded onto your teeth to hide a multitude of imperfections – from cracks and chips to gaps and discolouration. Dr Holmes brings a wealth of experience to each of his practices in creating perfectly straight, white smiles through the expert placement of veneers.

Gum Sculpting

Gum surgery is often required to treat periodontal disease – but it is also an effective way of creating a perfectly straight smile, too. If your teeth appear too short (a ‘gummy’ smile) or too long, aesthetic gum surgery could well be the ideal solution. With a wealth of experience in periodontal surgery, Dr Holmes can reshape your gums to create the smile you really want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Veneers

Are veneers right for me?

If you have good oral health generally but suffer with unsightly teeth, veneers are likely to be an ideal solution. They can be used to hide cracked, chipped or worn down teeth; gaps between teeth; misaligned teeth; short or misshapen teeth; and teeth that are anything less than pearly-white in colour.

How are veneers fitted?

Veneers have to be fused to your existing teeth, and this is achieved by first removing a layer of enamel equal to the thickness of the veneer. Once the veneer is bonded in place by the dentist, it can be hand-finished to achieve the perfect shape.

Do veneers hurt?

Placement of veneers should be a pain-free procedure, in which local anaesthetic is normally used – though this is not always necessary and depends on the nature of the treatment.

Orthodontics

Are adult braces right for me?

Unless you require extensive orthodontic work, the chances are that cosmetic adult braces will be suitable for you – and the good news is there is no upper age limit for receiving cosmetic orthodontic treatment.

What are the benefits of adult braces?

As well as being fast working and very discreet, cosmetic adult braces can benefit your oral health too – because the straighter your teeth are, the less likely they are to become vulnerable to damage and decay.

Can I have braces if I have a crown?

In many cases, yes it is possible to move teeth even if they already have crowns. Dr Holmes will be able to confirm during the consultation phase if this is an option for you.
